Crazy Laws from the Past That Still Exist!

Narrator (Kelvin Jasi):
“Some laws were made centuries ago — and believe it or not, many of them are still technically legal today!
Today on Yekare History, we’re counting down 10 crazy old laws that will leave you scratching your head.”

10. No Chewing Gum in Singapore

Chewing gum was banned in 1992 to keep the streets clean. Even today, bringing gum into Singapore can get you fined heavily — or even arrested!

9. You Can’t Die in a Certain Town in France

In the small town of Le Lavandou, it’s literally illegal to die without buying a burial plot first. Talk about planning ahead!

8. Don’t Wear Armor in Parliament — UK

In Britain, there’s an ancient law that forbids wearing armor inside Parliament.
So, if you’re planning to storm the House of Lords like a medieval knight… don’t.

7. Married Women Can’t Skydive on Sundays — Florida, USA

Yes, this law still exists! In some Florida towns, married women need their husband’s permission to go skydiving on Sundays.

6. Beards Were Taxed in Russia

Back in the 1700s, Peter the Great introduced a beard tax to modernize Russia.
Surprisingly, this strange tax law is still written in Russian law books, even if it’s not enforced today.

5. No Chewing Loudly in Public — Japan

In some Japanese cities, it’s illegal to chew food too loudly in public spaces.
So, if you’re a noisy eater, beware — you might get fined!

4. No Sleeping Naked — Minnesota, USA

It’s still technically against the law for married couples to sleep naked in Minnesota.
This one probably needs an update!

3. It’s Illegal to Forget Your Wife’s Birthday — Samoa

In Samoa, husbands can face fines or punishments if they forget their wife’s birthday.
Honestly, this one might save a few marriages!

2. Don’t Handle Salmon Suspiciously — UK

A bizarre old British law makes it illegal to handle salmon in a suspicious way.
We have no idea what ‘suspicious salmon handling’ looks like, but it’s a real law!

1. It’s Illegal to Own Just One Guinea Pig — Switzerland

In Switzerland, guinea pigs are considered social animals, so it’s illegal to own just one.
If you have one guinea pig, you must buy a friend for it!

Narrator (chuckling):
“These laws may sound ridiculous, but they show how society’s rules can stick around for centuries.
Which one surprised you the most? Tell us in the comments!”
